What to pack for Gamescom / DMEXCO

Never mind Cannes Lions, for the in-the-know ad executive Cologne is the place to go for emerging entertainment trends and passionate audiences. The thing is, with a limited amount of time and some of the biggest industry news breaking, preparation is vital.

Never fear, we have gathered the opinions of our Gamescom / DMEXCO veterans to make sure you are set with a bag of tricks to make the most of Cologne.  

Hand luggage

From the minute you leave for the airport you are on a mission to play games and network so there is no time for a full 23kg of paraphernalia. Pack light so that those last, post-check out meetings aren’t hell. Don’t forget to leave room for the swag you are bound to collect.

Flat shoes

Both conferences are in Koelnmesse conference hall, which is big. Really big. You will also need…

Paperwork

… a map, along with tickets, business cards, a city tax exemption form (really!) and your travel documents.

A charger

Standard. Bring an adaptor.

Mustard

You’re in Germany, there will be sausages.

Spare clothes

Ideally items that can fall casualty to the heavy party schedule.

Disguise

The situation could arise when you need to get involved in some cos play or keep a low profile from former colleagues/clients/acquaintances you met in a certain kind of club. You never know!

Ibuprofen

Essential.

Berocca

 Likewise.

Fruit

One of your five a day and a good shout for easing your stomach back in after four days of sauerkraut.

Sunglasses

Who said anything about a hangover? Wear them even when it’s dark out and roll with the best.
